[A message by PASTOR IDOWU ILUYOMADE at Digging for Gold Service on Tuesday, July 25, 2017]

Reference Scriptures:

JOHN 3:1 - “There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.”

PSALM 91:8 - ONLY with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.”

In our studies of Psalm 91:7, we learnt that calamities may be happening around us but God singles us out to protect us. We saw cases of near misses where people escaped death by the whiskers. The Bible says a thousand may A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you but verse 8 says “ONLY with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.”.  The word only means no other thing’, nothing more besides this, this is all that will occur’. When God says “only with your eyes”, could there have been other things that could have happened? Absolutely! But God limits and sets boundaries.

God Sets Boundaries

How does God ensure that a thousand may fall but only with our eyes will you see it? How does He protect us from the ricochet effect of things happening around us? Jeremiah 5:22 (NLT) says “Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the LORD, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.”. From scriptures, we see God as the controller of boundaries, setting limits and controls over nature, happening, closing doors against calamities.  He says thus far and no more (Job 38:8-11, Revelation 3:7-8, Psalm 24:7)

In effect, He ensures that though things may be happening around us, we would only be spectators. A classic example is when plagues were unleashed on the Egyptians, especially the last plague. Though the children of Israel were also in Egypt, God set boundaries around them, that while the Egyptians were crying in anguish, the children of Israel were beholding and seeing thousands falling around them. Indeed, satan admitted concerning Job “Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?” (Job 1:10). God set boundaries around Job that satan could not penetrate till God lifted the boundary for a season.

Calamities by Association

However, sometimes calamities do happen to some people, not because the evil was meant for them, but because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong association. Therefore, they became partakers instead of being spectators.

Scriptural Examples

1.          Jonah: Because of Jonah, some traders lost their properties and almost lost their lives till they threw him over board. (Jonah 1).

2.         Achan: Israel suffered defeat and lost 36 Soldiers when Achan sinned (Joshua 7:5)

3.         David: When David aligned himself with the Philistines, the enemy of Israel and went to war with them against Israel. The Amalekites invaded his camp and took away his wives and children (1 Samuel 29:2-3)

4.         Jehoshaphat: Ahaziah was a wicked king, but Jehoshaphat became his business partner and consequently suffered business loses (2 Chronicles 20:35)

5.         Jehoshaphat: Another time in his life, Jehoshaphat aligned with Ahab and he almost lost his life (2 Chronicles 18:29-30)

In essence, there are some situations that we find ourselves; some things that are happening in our lives that is as a result of evil or wrong alignment. Being unequally yoked in business attracts evil. For some accidents, the judgment might have been hanging on one person, just like the story of Jonah where there would have been a ship wreck because judgment was hanging over him. Every evil alignment, association or friendship that has a sentence of death upon the lives of whoever it rests on shall not come near you. I pray that God will eject and separate such people from your life in Jesus Name.

Sometimes, it could be because of a soul tie. For instance, it could be a family member as seen in the case of Abraham and his nephew, Lot. Abraham’s destiny was arrested and God stopped speaking to him because he took along his nephew notwithstanding the fact that God called him alone.  Abraham's progress was delayed and God sealed the Heavens until there was a separation (Genesis 13:11, 14).  After the separation from Lot, God restored Abraham’s destiny, God began to speak to him again, and he received help from above. I pray that every soul tie slowing down your progress, and arresting your destiny, will be separated from you in Jesus Name!

Finally, sin separates you from God. Sin won’t make God hear your prayers, it is only the Blood of Jesus that can cleanse your sins. The Bible says “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Once you embrace Jesus Christ, He will forgive all your sins and give you a fresh start. The entry point for you to a new life is to surrender your life to Him. If you are willing to repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, then pray this prayer right now: LORD Jesus, I come to You right now. I know I am a sinner, please forgive me my sins. With my mouth, I confess that from right now, Jesus, I accept You as the LORD of my life. Please change my heart from a disobedient heart to an obedient heart. I believe that it is because of me You came into this world. You died for my sins, You took away my sins, take away my problems also. I plead the blood of Jesus to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Please write my name in the Book of Life, and give me a fresh start in Jesus Mighty Name.
