GOD AND MY POTENTIAL
Excerpts of Pastor Akanimo Jacobs Message at the Sunshine Service on Sunday, October 29, 2017
Bible Texts: Ephesians 1:2-4 & 1:11 [KJV]
When you come to the place of maximizing your potential, the first thing is that there must be a potential that you are already exhibiting. The first place you must go when you want maximize potential is finding out God's purpose for you. Ephesians 1:11 tells us that until you come face to face with God's purpose for your life, you cannot maximize your potential. Unless you get into the knowledge, understanding or appreciation of what God's will is for you as an individual, you cannot begin to maximize everything God has put inside of you. What relationship or idea are you carrying that is the key to the expectation of your heart or the future that you have dreamed of?
The place to go when you want to begin to maximize potential, is the One from which you came from; the Source of life (Isaiah 46:9-11). God is the One person that can tell you exactly who you are. God is the One Who can tell you who you are so that you do not minimise or belittle the thing that He has configured inside of you. You have to go back to God, so that He can define who you are to you. Nobody else knows what God has put inside of you; nobody else knows what you are capable of, nobody knows the gifts that you have (or how far and the extent to which these gifts can go), asides from God.
Hence, your potential is that dormant ability, unused strength, reserved power, unused success, everything you could do but haven't done yet, everything you could be but haven't been yet, or how far you could have gone but haven't gone yet. The reason potential is so important and sensitive to God is that when you maximize and fulfil potential, you begin to affect and impact your generation in a way that you could never have. Your potential is locked in in God; He is the key and secret to maximizing potential. When you go into a time of fellowshipping with God, He begins to unbundle what you are meant to do, but you have not yet known.
Furthermore, never compare yourself with other people, because the person you are comparing yourself with may be meant to be in limelight, but you are not meant to be. When you go to the LORD, one of the things that happens is that He begins to tell you what your purpose is. For example, the first thing Abraham was told when he met with God had to do with his purpose (Genesis 12:1-3), the same for Moses (Exodus 3:1-3; 3:10) Gideon (Judges 6:12&14), and Samuel (1 Samuel 2:35). God is eager to share with you who you really are. God is eager to reveal to you the things He has committed to you way before you were born (Jeremiah 1:5).
In addition, you must be aware of God when you are in His presence (1 Samuel 3). It is your response to God's presence that triggers God telling you about your purpose. Everything you have seen in life is small compared to the purpose that is hidden for you. Always remember that God wants you to fulfil the purpose He has sent you for. What is your purpose? If you do, what has God told you about yourself? What has God put inside of you that the world is waiting for? There is an aroma inside you and it will never come out until the fire of the Holy Ghost kindles upon you (Proverbs 20:27). This aroma affects people you will never know. This can be best described as impact or influence that will linger even after you have left the face of the earth. Some people are so enraptured in copying other people, and thereby live in pretense. God cannot bless who you pretend to be. God wants to see you; and when He sees you, He will command His blessings upon you. No one really knows you, as they were not present when God developed your nature. If you depend on people or things for your identity, the day that person or those things change, there goes who you are. When who you are is locked in to a revelation given by God, the anchor holds; and nothing, no disease or devil can change it.
When you deviate from God's plan for your life, God will be quiet. If there is silence over your life, it is possible that you are not where God wants you to be or you are not doing what God wants you to do. When you hear from God, when you are led by Him and when you conduct your life in line with what He has said concerning you, the Bible makes it clear that you will know your purpose and know whose hands is helping you maximize potential. It is not so much the instrument but the hand that wields the object. The Bible says we are weapons in the Hands of God. When you allow God to use you, He understands your properties and what He has put in you. God is the most skilled person to bring out what He has kept inside of you, and He is the One you must stand with, because without Him you cannot fulfil purpose or maximize potential.
In conclusion, what is the character of God in your life that the world is waiting to see? What glory of God is locked in your purpose that the earth will never enjoy unless you maximize your potential? Have you begun to fulfil purpose? You can start today by inviting God into your life, so that you can have an encounter with Him, and you will begin to fulfil purpose and maximize potential. If you are willing to repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, then pray this prayer right now: LORD Jesus, I repent of every sin that I have committed. I plead that the Blood of Jesus will cleanse me. LORD Jesus, let my potential begin to grow within me; let everything in my life become aware of the presence of God. Today, I am a new creature; walk with me Jesus, talk with me Jesus. Thank You Father, in Jesus special name I pray.
